The Anabaptist movement began in Zurich in 1525. It spread rapidly. However, the Anabaptists were disdained, persecuted, dispossessed and expelled by state and church.
500 years later, Anabaptists from all over the world are traveling to Switzerland to celebrate their anniversary. The big day of celebration in Zurich, organized by the Mennonite World Conference, will be Ascension Day, 29 May 2025.
Welcoming Guests
It takes courage to open the door to your own home and to let in unknown guests, greeting them with a warm «Welcome!»
It is a special sign of goodwill, when people open their door to strangers whose ancestors did not grant this welcome to each other.
I appreciate this encouragement «You are welcome here» in places from which our Anabaptist ancestors had to emigrate some centuries ago.
As the Swiss Mennonite Conference, we are delighted about this welcome campaign of Swiss Reformed Christians and would like to thank those involved for their initiative.
Juerg Braeker, General Secretary of Swiss Mennonite Conference
